Monday Matter #3: visual

Self immolation has been throughout history, a form of political protest; and this picture represents the Greek people's protest against Greece's government and the actions that have led to and failed to stop the Greek debt crisis. If the fire that blazes on the Greeks man's body is his shout of protest, than the policeman (a figure of government authority) running over to extinguish the fire represents the government extinguishing the people's calls. The policeman's face is not shown-he is just a general representation of authority. One of the man's arms is up towards the police officer (as if protecting himself from a blow), while his other arm is still reaching for the dropped can of gasoline that he used to set himself on fire, showing he wants to continue having a political voice. The shadow of the bank he is in front of looms over the man, showing how the economic burden he has endured personally has led him to this, while the authority is coming from the light still not as much affected by the economic problems of Greece as the common person is.

Editorial- Monday #2

Leadership Crisis

Both Republicans and Democrats are not listening to the American people, and therefore the economy is suffering. While Americans in poll have shown not to agree with "Reaganomics", some Republicans and Democrats still do, and it is argued that that is what has caused the debt, and recessions. While President Obama's ideas have been right, he has spent too much time trying to appeal to Republics rather than taking a stand for the interests of the people of America. Even though his actions have been criticized, they have been the right ones that most Americans actually agree with, just not enough of them, and his job plan is a positive step- but rather than compromising with the Republicans and Democrats he needs to appeal to the American people for the support he needs to get the bill passed.

Court Case Asks if Big B

Court Case Asks if ‘Big Brother’ Is Spelled GPS:

In the past few years, the Fourth Amendment's new meaning in our digital age has come into question in many lower courts; with Judge's citing George Orwell's 1984 in claims that government surveillance efforts utilizing technology are invasions of the privacy guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment. In November, the Supreme Court will take on the United States vs. Jones, and tackle the issue of whether using GPS surveillance to watch suspects constitutes "unreasonable search". Jones specifically was convicted of selling cocaine through evidence obtained from GPS surveillance of his travels-after the search warrant they obtained expired. The government is arguing that no search warrant was needed.
